Thinking about giving therapy a try? Group therapy is a fantastic option for learning coping mechanisms and bonding with a group of people who are going through similar issues. While you may initially feel nervous about sharing with a group of strangers, your therapist will work with the group to create a comfortable, safe environment that lends itself to sharing.
Group therapy sessions can involve a large or small group of people. At your first group therapy session, you may want to sit back and observe the group without contributing. Group therapists understand that it may take some time for participants to feel comfortable sharing. There will never be pressure to contribute.
Over time, you'll become more comfortable with your group. Some group therapy sessions run on an ongoing basis, accepting new members at any time. Others have set start and end dates, allowing all new members to start at the same time.
